The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman

All Hallow's Read!
Give a book for Halloween!

The Graveyard Book. Neil Gaiman. 4 stars. Best Thing: Ghost Stories. Worst Thing: Living People Stories.

Spookiness: 4/5 Ghosts.

Spooky elements: graveyards, ghosts, ghouls, some kind of vampire or something, werewolves, mysterious murderers.

Good for: just about everybody. It's technically juvenile fiction, but has something for everyone. It contains words that might be pretty hard for a lot of kids on their own, so if you're considering it for a child it might be better to read it together.

I had wicked high hopes for graveyard book. I trudged through it, but it was no where near what i hoped it would be.

I pretty much agree! I still enjoyed it, but not as much as I hoped to. I was a bit shocked that it won the Newbery Award when Coraline was so much better. Check out Odd and the Frost Giants, though; that one was great.

I'd forgotten about odd. If I stubble across a copy I'll pick it up.
